Let’s make sense of those bloods.
We’ve both been there. Join us, Charlotte and Brendan, for the next evening in our New Graduate Survival Series. This time, we’re tackling biochemistry and haematology: what to look at, what the changes might mean, and how to turn a page of numbers into something useful for the patient in front of you.
We’re two working UK small-animal vets, and we want this to be the sort of conversation you’d have with a supportive colleague over a cuppa: “Right, let’s look at these bloods together.”
What we’ll chat through
- Biochemistry: kidneys, liver, proteins, glucose and electrolytes — where to start and how to spot useful patterns.
- Haematology: red cells, white cells and platelets — what’s changed, and what might be going on?
- Those slightly awkward results: the mildly raised number, the unexpected finding, and whether everything in red needs you to panic.
- Putting the whole picture together: remembering that the blood results belong to an actual patient, with a history and clinical signs.
- What to do next: when to investigate further, when to recheck, and when to ask someone for another pair of eyes.
Expect practical examples, honest discussion, a few laughs and plenty of room for the questions you might have been worried were “too basic”. They’re exactly the questions this evening is for.
We’ll stay online afterwards for Q&A, so grab a cuppa, bring your questions and come chat bloodwork with us.
