MEET THE CHATTY VETS
Charlotte & Brendan — two UK small-animal vets navigating the wild, wonderful, and occasionally ridiculous world of veterinary practice.

BRENDAN
My veterinary journey began at the University of Bristol and has spanned over twenty years in general practice.
Then, always keen to seek a challenge, in 2020, I bypassed the route of practice ownership or management, and leapt into emergency work as a roving clinician for Vets Now. Those four years left a lasting imprint on how I practice and view our profession.
Along the way, I've been fortunate to work alongside brilliant colleagues—from dedicated nurses and world-class specialists to inspiring peers in every setting imaginable, from busy charity hospitals and multidisciplinary referral centres to small, family-run practices.
This podcast is the result of those experiences. It's a place to share the lessons, conversations, and that collective wisdom — hopefully offering a few down-to-earth insights and fresh perspectives that you can use in your own veterinary career.
CHARLOTTE
My veterinary journey began in 2021, and while it’s shorter than Brendan’s, it’s already felt like a full career in its own right. I started out in an independent first-opinion small animal practice in Kent, where I loved the team, the caseload, and the everyday variety of small animal work. Like many early-career vets though, the pace was intense, and I quickly learned how demanding this profession can be.
After a year of locuming to regain some balance, I realised I was missing the challenge that had drawn me towards this profession in the first place. That curiosity led me into emergency and out-of-hours work, where I trained and worked full-time as an ECC vet in Kent.
I now work in a hybrid role, mixing small animal GP locum work with out-of-hours practice, and am currently based in North Wales with my partner and my rescue Border Collie.
This podcast comes from these experiences. It’s a place to talk honestly about life in the veterinary world — the good days, the tough ones, and the moments that make it all worthwhile — while sharing lessons, perspectives, and hopefully a few laughs along the way.
